Buchanan’s Barn

Located in the Historic Houston Heights, the design of Buchanan’s Native Plants integrates sustainable, site-responsive strategies that respect both the community and environment. Rooted in its local context, the design draws from regional vernacular forms, reinterpreting a traditional barn and on-site greenhouse with a modern sensibility. Large operable barn and garage doors, skylights, and building orientation support cross and longitudinal ventilation, reducing heat buildup and allowing for seasonal thermal comfort. Serving as both a logistical hub and architectural landmark, the structure supports smooth circulation and reflects the nursery’s strong connection to its neighborhood.
